The abridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Nicci French's Catch Me When I Fall is a blistering thriller from the masters of psychological suspense.
You're a whirlwind. A success. You live life on the edge. But who'll catch you when you fall? Holly Krauss lives life in a cyclone - her husband Charlie, her business partner Meg and her colleagues at KS Associates are left breathless by her energy. But sometimes her wild behaviour leads to reckless mistakes. Mistakes which soon leave her life spiralling out of control. And once her descent begins, Holly can do little to stop it. This is most definitely a woman on the edge of a nervous breakdown. But is Holly solely responsible for what is happening to her? Are her fears for her own safety caused by the paranoia of her illness - or very real danger . . . ?
Read by Kate Sachs and Elisabeth Dermot Walsh.

Long before the diagnosis is pronounced, readers will recognize that 27-year-old London executive Holly Krauss, the heroine of French's disappointing new novel (after 2004's Secret Smile
), is suffering from bipolar disorder, though Holly's manic side is much more pronounced than the depressive. A drinking binge one evening leads to a sordid one-night-stand with disastrous consequences—Rees, the man she sleeps with, begins to threaten her. Meanwhile, Holly's relationship with her business partner and best friend, Meg, is in peril, as is her marriage. During another drunken evening, she loses thousands of pounds in a poker game to a loan shark. Such self-destructive behavior (most notably her poor impulse control) undermines the sense of danger. Of course, a crime lurks at the story's heart (Holly isn't entirely paranoid), but the muddled plot and unsympathetic heroine make this suspense thriller less satisfying than others by French (the pseudonym of journalists Sean French and Nicci Gerrard). Agent, Joy Harris.

Holly Krauss, the successful businesswoman at the center of CATCH ME WHEN I FALL, has a secret. She's out of control. And not only that, people are extorting money from her, stalking her, and trying to kill her. Or is it all a figment of Holly's manic-depressive imagination? There are plenty of fireworks in this suspense story--both real and imagined--as the authors push the genre limits with their empathetically challenged heroine. Narrator Anne Flosnik conveys the thrills and terror of Holly's bipolar dilemma and does a first-rate job differentiating the two narrative voices, the self-destructive Holly and her ever-supportive best friend, Meg.
