In the Tale of Benjamin Bunny, Benjamin and his cousin Peter Rabbit venture into Mr. McGregor's garden to retrieve the clothes Peter lost there in The Tale of Peter Rabbit. After finding Peter's clothes, Peter is anxious to leave, remembering his recent experiences there. But will his cousin Benjamin follow? The fourth of Beatrix Potter's 22 charmingly illustrated tales of animals in amusing situations, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny has delighted children since 1904.

Nothing good comes of the outing in which Benjamin Bunny takes his cousin Peter Rabbit back to the scene of his close call in Mr. McGregor's garden. Peter is jumpy as he sees his clothes on the scarecrow, and Benjamin is just a bit too brazen in masterminding their recovery before the two escape with an additional vegetable bonus for the family. Rosemary Leach gently narrates this quiet tale. She is true to Beatrix Potter's tone of understatement and careful detail as she recounts each event--Peter's clumsiness, the snap of Mr. Benjamin Bunny's switch as he walks the wall, and Mr. McGregor's puzzlement at the tiny footprints in his garden. Musical interludes provide both characterization and a complement to the tale's mood. A.R. (c) AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine
