Emma Lathen uses Congressman Ben Safford of Ohio in this series of political murders as she uses John Putnam Thatcher in her banking series. This is much like Agatha Christie having two series, Poirot and Marple. It is no accident the New York Times called her the American Agatha Christie. Several reviewers called the Safford series The Agatha Christie of Politics.
